Mihalek, Robinson: Community Invited to 9/11 Tribute Event

HARRISBURG – To remember the atrocities that shook the world 25 years ago, Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Washington) and Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-Allegheny) are inviting members of the community to their annual First Responder Appreciation Stair Climb and Recruitment Event on Friday at the Spencer Family YMCA, 305 Church Road, Bethel Park, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Two and a half decades ago, we witnessed one of the most horrific events to occur on U.S. soil, which claimed the lives of thousands of Americans, many of which were first responders selflessly running toward the danger,” Mihalek said. “As more than 100 million Americans are now too young to remember the attacks firsthand, Sen. Robinson and I are committed to making certain the next generation understands what happened and never forgets who we lost on that terrible day.”

Mihalek and local officials will honor first responders by climbing mechanical stairs while wearing firefighting protective gear. During the stair climb, attendees are invited to read the names of the first responders who lost their lives in the attacks. Additional activities include a memorial service and interactive rescue simulations. Bethel Park firefighters will also be on hand to discuss volunteer opportunities, including an education partnership with Community College of Allegheny County.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Today, I’m proud to partner with Rep. Mihalek to honor the heroes who responded that day, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Robinson. “May we never forget the brave first responders, the victims who perished in the attacks, and the sacrifices of the families who remain.”
